Overview

The Langtang Valley Trek is a wonderful trekking trail in the Langtang region of Nepal. Langtang Valley is one of the most fascinating trekking regions for those wishing a short trek into the Himalayas with a desire to explore the beauty of nature and ancient Tibetan culture with a scenic view of the Himalayas. It is about 123 km east of Kathmandu, so the Langtang trekking trails begin with a 4- to 5-hour jeep drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi and head forward through the banks of the Langtang River. Trekking to Langtang Valley passes through marvelous alpine meadows, majestic waterfalls, and magnificent rhododendron forests. Langtang National Park preserves this region, the first Himalayan national park of Nepal. Passing through this Langtang National Park makes this trek more astonishing, as it provides a good opportunity to witness various floras and faunas, including the national bird, the lophophoros, red pandas, deer, and wild bears.

The Langtang Valley is located just below the Langtang Glacier lake. The ethnic generosity is surprising, as the customary villages populated by the Tamang people have preserved their traditional folk culture and customs, which are very similar to the Tibetan culture. The trekking extends to the Kyanjin Gompa, which is the central spiritual attraction in the Langtang region. Exploring the adjacent panoramas and the yak grazing pastures is an exciting day.

How difficult is the Langtang Valley Trek?

The Langtang Valley Trek is a Moderate trail in the Langtang region. It is suitable for passionate walkers who have the ability to walk at least 5 to 8 hours a day with a light rucksack. On some days we might even need to walk for 6 to 8 hours. Walking in higher altitudes is more physically demanding than walking in the lower altitudes; however, if we are in excellent health with average physical fitness, have a positive attitude, and have strong determination, we may accomplish the trek successfully. Exercising and jogging regularly is a good idea to enhance our strength and stability. No previous trekking experience is needed for the Langtang trek. Participants with pre-existing medical conditions such as heart, lung, and blood diseases should inform us before booking the trips.

Accommodation and Foods

We will organize for you the best hotel accommodation in Kathmandu as per your requirements, and teahouse lodges will be used during the Langtang Valley trek. All accommodations are on a twin-shared basis. However, tea houses in some places only have shared washing and toilet facilities. Also note that single rooms are readily available in Kathmandu and the trekking area at lower elevations, but it might be difficult to find them at higher elevations. So do not expect deluxe accommodation in the rural areas. However, we will provide you the best one available.

You will have fresh Nepali foods during the trek; however, there are also Western and continental foods available. We don’t recommend taking those foods because they may have been stored for a long time, so traditional Nepali foods like dal bhat tarkari are the best while trekking. Somewhere you can see a full slogan: “Dal bhat power, 24 hours.”

Best Time to Travel

The Langtang trekking trail is one of the best and adventure trekking in Nepal. March to May and September to December are the best months for these trekking trips. Although this trip can be taken during winter, the cold temperature, but might not be suitable for everyone.

Itinerary

Arrival at Kathmandu Airport, Nepal Himalaya Tour’s team will be in the Kathmandu airport to receive you without any delay according to your arrival flight schedule. It may take some time, like 30-40 minutes, to collect your luggage and for security checking at the airport. After that, you make your way to the exit from the airport and stuff your name card and our company name, “Nepal Himalaya Tours.” As you see the card, our staff will greet you and transfer you to the hotel by luxury car. After check-in, you can take a rest or visit our office. In the evening, there will be a welcome dinner with our team member.

Early morning, we drive from Kathmandu to Syabru Besi, about a 5- to 6-hour scenic drive by jeep. The scenery of foothills and ridgeline vistas to Syabrubesi goes through the Trishuli Bazaar, Betrawati, and Dhunche. You feel as if you are heading towards deep land. While passing along the road at the bank of the Trishuli River, you catch a glimpse of Ganesh Himal, terraces, and green hills. At the evening stay at Bamboo.

Enjoy yourself in the rhododendron and bamboo forests. The variety of wildlife includes yellow-throated martens, wild boars, langur monkeys, red pandas, and Himalayan black bears that all inhabit this forest. Afterwards, your trek ascends gently to Rimche (2400 m) through bamboo, which lies at the bank of Langtang Khola with only a few houses. Probably, we will have lunch at this place if you like. And the walk continues to the Lama Hotel (2,470 m), ascending the trail in the jungle, following the Langtang River.

The trail leads us through a tiny village with stone-built houses, climbing to a chorten, and passing a huge mani wall along a gentle path. We have a chance to taste cheese and curd made from yak milk, a specialty of this place. This is a short walk but enough for acclimatization. The surroundings are also interesting because of the famous cheese factory. This beautiful valley is in the lap of the Langtang Lirung and others around us. This section is a good place to explore the local culture, which is remarkably similar to Tibetan culture. Evening stays at Kyanjin Gumba

Today also we retrace the trail all the way to Sybrubesi, about 6 to 7 hours. For a change we will follow the so-called ‘high’ route back to Syarubesi. This trail splits off the route we took upwards shortly after leaving the Lama Hotel. The route goes to the small village of Syarpagaon, continues onto Bhanjyanggaon, and then to Khangjung before descending back to Syabrubesi. This was the primary route to Langtang before the new trail (which we followed on our way up) was built.

Early morning at 6 am. in the hotel lobby to have your breakfast or ask questions of your guide. You will drive back to Kathmandu through the road passing terraces, streams, rivers, local settlements, and high hills along the Trishuli riverside. It takes about 5 to 6 hours get the Kathmandu by private jeep.

After breakfast at hotel, we start a sightseeing tour for UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the Kathmandu Valley: Kathmandu Durbar Square, Pashupatinath, Boudhnath (the largest Boudha stupa in the world), and Swayambhunath. Kathmandu Durbar Square holds the palaces of the medieval kings who ruled over the then Kathmandu Kingdom. Swayambhu stupa is one of the oldest Buddhist stupas in the world. The stupa is also famous for being on the hilltop and known as the Monkey Temple. The Pashupatinath temple bank of the Bagmati River is one of the world’s most sacred places of worship for the Hindus. The Buddhist shrine of Boudha Nath is one of the largest stupas in the world and one of the holiest Buddhist pilgrimages and most visited tourist destinations. In the evening, you will have farewell dinner with culture show.

After breakfast we transfer to the airport 3 hours before your scheduled flight. We hope you enjoyed the Annapurna Base Camp trekking tour with us, and we are sure you will be back for a trip to the Nepal Himalaya next year with your friends.
