Sometimes you might have the opportunity to stay at a family-run guesthouse, allowing you to experience local life closely. The accommodations are strategically located close to the main attractions to make exploring comfortable. You will be provided typical Bhutanese food as well as familiar continental meals. In Thimphu and Paro, ema datshi, jasha maru, and red rice are all served at really cozy local establishments. For example, while actually staying in Punakha and Wangdue Phodrang, you will come to know what the taste of home-cooked meals is for yourself: locally produced ingredients, quite possibly those served at home. Paro International Airport will welcome travelers into the search for a comfortable tourist vehicle like a car, jeep, or van, so it depends on the size of the group of visitors.
Foreign visitors need a visa to enter Bhutan, which must be arranged through a registered tour operator. You cannot apply for the visa on your own. Once you book your trip, the tour company will apply for a Bhutan visa with the immigration office of Bhutan. Before your departure for the Bhutan trip, you will receive an official visa approval letter, which you must present on arrival at Paro airport. The final visa will be stamped into your passport when you enter Bhutan at Paro International Airport.
Arrival at Paro airport, meet and greeted by our tour guide upon exiting the arrival hall. Check in to the hotel. Then visit the National Memorial Chorten, which is built in honor of the late King Jigme Dorji Wangchuk. Evening explore downtown Thimphu.
After breakfast at the hotel, you will drive around 10 km for a 30-minute hike to the most iconic Tiger’s Nest (Taktsang Monastery), located in the north part of Paro city. The monastery is situated on a cliff at 3000 meters. The Taktsang Monastery offers a great view of the valley and surrounding scenic mountain views. In the afternoon you will have lunch at the cafeteria at the monastery. You will drive back to Paro and then Thimphu in the evening. Overnight at Thimphu.
After breakfast at the hotel, a fully guided sightseeing tour at Thimphu. Explore the Nunnery Temple, King’s Memorial Chorten, Changgangkha Monastery, and Majestic Thimphu Dzong, then discover the central zoo. You will also visit some local markets, where you can find the varieties of local products, handmade cloths, and items. If the time permits, visit the radio tower situated on a hilltop offering a dramatic panoramic vista of the city in the evening. Overnight at Thimphu.
Breakfast at the hotel, then you will drive to Punakha. It is located on the east side of Thimphu and is about 75 km away, which will take 2 hours by private car. Punakha is the former capital of Bhutan. On the way, you will explore the Chimi Lhakhang, a fertility temple. After lunch, visit Punakha Dzong Monastery, located between two beautiful rivers, Pho Chu and Mo Chu. Evening visit to the local market at Punakha.
Early in the morning after breakfast, you will drive to Gangtey; it will take about 3 hours and is almost 80 km east of Punakha at the altitude of 3200 m in the Wangdue Phodrang district. Visit Gangtey Monastery, which was built in the 17th century. You can see the best scenic snow-covered mountain view with lush green hills around it. Evening walk around the Phobjikha village. It is peaceful, and houses are made of wood and stone. Evening at Gangtey village.
Breakfast at the hotel, then you will take a scenic drive to Paro, around 180 km. On the way, visit Simtokha Dzong. You will have lunch at Punakha. En route discover the breathtaking scenic mountain views. Arrive at Paro and visit the National Museum and many shrines, including Drugyel Dzong, Kyichi Lhakhang, and Rinpung Dzong. Overnight at Paro.
After breakfast, our guide and driver will transfer you to Paro International Airport for your flight to your onward destination.
