Therefore, it is the most important pilgrimage place for Buddhists. The holy shrine at Muktinath is in a grove of trees and includes a Buddhist Gompa and the pagoda-style temple of Vishnu. The Hindus call it Muktichhetra (Place of Salvation), and it is one of the four religious sites. Many Shaligrams (ammonites) found here are considered by Hindus to be incarnations of Lord Vishnu, and they worship them. According to Hindu myth, Lord Vishnu turned into Shaligram because of Brinda’s curse. Similarly, Buddhists call this valley the Chumig Gyatsa (place of 108 waterspouts). It is believed that Guru Rimpoche (Padmasambha), the scholar founder of Tibetan Buddhism, once meditated and gained a lifetime achievement of spiritual knowledge here while on his way to Tibet in the 12th century. The main ethnic group of the valley is Bhotias. This place is open throughout the year, but especially in Rishitarpani, Ram Nawami, and Bijay Dashami, thousands of pilgrims gather here to celebrate the festival.

Best time to visit

The best time to visit Muktinath and Pashupatinath on tour is March to June and September to November. During these months the weather is clear, warm, and sunny. Good weather in the Muktinath region with scenic mountain views can be seen. And visiting Pashupatinath Temple is suitable all year round for our guests. December is also a good month to visit Muktinath Temple; however, the cold season is starting in that region. Jan and Feb are still possible months to reach Muktinath with proper warm clothes as well.

High-altitude sickness

The Muktinath temple is located on the hilly side of Nepal at the altitude of 3710 m. People who are from zero altitude and do not have previous experience of being in the land of high altitude may face altitude sickness. In this tour, we have scheduled a very short time to be in Muktinath so that in the case of altitude sickness, immediately driving down to Jomsom and Pokhara helps to skip more seriousness from it. However, it is a very rare case, or you can take some medication like Diamox for altitude sickness.
