Helambu valley lies to the north of Kathmandu and offers the nearest experience of Sherpa culture without having to go to the Everest region. The Sherpa village of Tarke Ghyang that forms the focus of Helambu is a charming enclave of farmers and yak herders. The trip starts with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Sundarijal. Helambu provides an instant Himalayan trek for those with limited time. This trek is an easy and enjoyable trip conducted at the average altitude of 3500m. Helambu valley trek takes you through Thadepati to Tarke Gyang, where a choice of trails opens up. However we go along the south ridge through Sermathang, down to the river at Melamchi, the site of a mega project to bring drinking water to Kathmandu via a series of tunnels.

The trek concludes with a drive down to Kathmandu via Panchkhal, after a night's camp at Melamchi Bridge. This trek to northeast of Kathmandu valley bound on the north by a wall of 5000m peaks is an interesting 7-days loop. Tamangs and Sherpas inhabit the Helambu region, which offers excellent views of Jugal Himal. The trek begins from Sundarijal, a Himalayan river-fed water reservoir and climbs onto the Shivapuri ridge offering gorgeous views of Gauri Shanker (7134m), Langtang Lirung (7246m) and Ganesh Himal (7405m).

Itinerary

There we will meet at Kathmandu airport and transferred to hotel by private tourist vehicle. Evening explore local market.

We will start sightseeing at 9AM in the morning after breakfast. We will provide a private vehicle and professional city guide. Visiting world heritage sights UNESCO including Pasupatinath temple, Buddhanath, Shyambhunath and Kathmandu durbar square. Evening briefing about Helambu trekking and preparations for the trek.

Morning we drive to Sundarijal (1350m), our trek start point. From Sundarijal, trek to Chisopani (2300m). We begin our trek along a small hydroelectric plant. The trail then enters through into the Shivapuri National Park.  The first settlement we come across is Mulkharka mostly inhabited by the Tamang people. Then we walk along the ridge through a forest of oaks and rhododendron to Chisopani.

Breakfast in the morning, we head for a journey to Kutumsang. Our today's trek starts with a decent crossing meadows and fields. Enjoy the magnificent views of the Langtang mountains. Thus we arrive at Pathi Bhanjyang and Gul Bhanjyang. From Gul Bhanjyang, the trail climbs the ridge to another pass. Another downhill trek from the pass takes us to Kutumsang.

We climb above Kutumsang on a steep trail mostly through fir and rhododendron forest where there are no permanent settlements. The trek continues to Yurin Danda with magnificent views of the Himalayas. Stay overnight at Tharepati

First part of the trek, the trail descends until we cross the Melamchi Khola. We then trek up to Tarkeghyang passing through Sherpa settlements. Enjoy the Himalayan peaks after appear before you glistening in the sunshine. Discover the village and its monastery which is one of the oldest and biggest monasteries in the region. The village is more popularly known as Helambu, since most of the inhabitants belong to the Helmu caste.

Today we going to be comparatively easy walk with forests, streams, and waterfalls. The trail makes a sweep around the wide valley end between Parachin and the Sherpa village of Gangyul.  From Gangyul, we arrive at Sermathang. Discover the village. There is also a Buddhist monastery at the highest point of the village.

Today is the final day of the trekking, we walk down to Malemchi Pul Bazaar. The village is mostly inhabited by the Sherpa, but there are also people of other ethnicity.  From the Bazaar, we catch a bus/Jeep to Kathmandu. Evening To celebrate the successful completion of our journey, we will have a farewell dinner in the evening with culture show.

Breakfast in the morning we then transfer you to Kathmandu airport 3 hours before of flight schedule with the beautiful memory of Nepal.
